Where the spirit longs to go → desire → purpose
The desire of oneself vs their purpose in the world:
- A soul (spirit) in many religions is described as the incorporeal essence of a living being
- In Greek, the soul is known as psyche (ψυχή) and comes from the verb "to breath"
→ in many other cultures, the legend of the creation of man consists of the Gods breathing in the essence of life into an empty shell (aka the human body)
- Psyche in psychology is the totality of the human mind - conscious and unconscious
Ghosts in
- Mesopotamia:
Gidim: are thought to be created at the time of death by taking the memory and personality of a dead person; a ghost living in the underworld was similar to normal living - they had houses and could meet with people there
- Egypt:
The soul is separated into several parts
