Abstract:

“Monster in the making” is a 1st person game where something follows not only you but also all the living beings in the forest. While you try to put distance between you and what stalks you will encounter various spirits that will need help. You must decide would you sacrifice your chances of escape to save others or would you rather preserve above all else.

This game project was inspired by the research into nothingness and how it is perceived both in religion and metaphysics. In religion, the concept was developed by Epicurus as a way to stimulate people to stop worrying about what comes after death. In metaphysics “nothingness” is how humans perceive absence and it tries to tackle the unsolvable problem of the order of the universe. This game incorporates and presents both concepts through specific design choices and mechanics

Goals:

Project Goals:

Create an experiential and engaging game that will stimulate the players to self-reflect. It is designed in such a way that it will allow the players to re-evaluate their needs and focus more on their desires. It is meant to give the players a chance to express selfishness without any real consequences outside the game world. This game will also allow for relaxing exploration that will give the player an option to progress the game at their own pace and enjoy the world of the game.

Personal Goals

As a personal goal, I want to explore deeper how to combine simple games/gameplay with deep and meaningful ideas. I want to explore the effectiveness of simplicity and create a very impactful game, without using a complicated gameplay loop. Another personal aim is to challenge myself with creating a simplistic 3D style environment and explore my limits. I want to experiment with a different (than the usual) 3D space style that incorporates 2D texture onto the 3D asset.

User Experience

Audience:

This game is targeted at people who are interested in playing an experiential game, which outcome is self-reflection. It is recommended to players who prefer a calmer rather than an active gameplay loop. The age range is recommended for 16+ to allow for a satisfactory level of reflection when playing the game.

Competitive Analysis

In order to create a quality game that is meaningful, interesting, and simple I went out to research and compare other games that touch upon the same topics as mine. Even if the gameplay loops are different from each other, the main
