This game was inspired by a dream I had about death and loneliness. This game is about acceptance and going forward despite everything.
- Basically, in my dream, there was this very old grandma that was living in a house in the middle of nowhere. Then she hears a knock on her door and when she opens it, it turns out it's her grandchild from a long time ago. She greets him and he stays overnight. The next day the grandchild has to leave and the Grandma decides that she'll go with him seeing as maybe it's time for her to explore a bit too. Then throughout their journey, they witness the war that is raging in the world right now. The grandma always chats with her grandchild in a one-sided conversation but she doesn't mind. The turning point though is that one time the grandma witnesses a very young person dying on the battlefield so she goes to help him. Just as she's reaching for the person to help she then realizes that she's actually only a ghost. Turning to her companion the grandma sees that he is in fact Death and not her grandchild that has been dead for almost 10 years. She asks why he hasn't said anything to her about being dead and Death says that the point is for the dead to fulfill their wishes and realize it by themselves that they are already deceased. Death then asks if the grandma wants to continue to the afterlife but she refuses with the words: "Even Death can feel lonely. I will keep you company for now."
You play as a grandma that accompanies Death while it collects the souls of the dead. Throughout your journey, you will have to collect little pieces of artifacts from your life as you slowly come to the realization you are dead. It is a simple experiential game about taking things at your own pace and enjoying the journey before its end.
The game can be a 3D side scroller game, where it’s more about walking and revisiting old places than jumping around and fighting enemies. I want to give the players space to just be and enjoy playing a game where the journey is more important than the destination.
